Our Spacious Skies: Pikes Peak Regional Visioning INITIATIVE
Our Spacious Skies undertook an unprecedented level of community research to understand what residents across the Pikes Peak Region envision for the future of this extraordinary place we call home. Through extensive one-on-one interviews, focus groups, and regional surveys, paired with online and in-person community conversations, voices from every corner of the region were invited to share what matters most.
From longtime residents to newcomers, from bustling urban centers to the wide-open plains and rural mountain communities, every effort was made to engage people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences.
The research offers clear and actionable insights into what connects our communities, the challenges we face, and the opportunities we have to strengthen our shared future. Participants spoke passionately about belonging, stewardship of the natural environment, access to opportunity, housing and affordability, and the character that makes the Pikes Peak Region unique.
Led by Pikes Peak Community Foundation, this data will serve as the foundation for long-term regional collaboration. Interactive dashboards and open-access data will be made available to the public, offering a transparent view of how residents across El Paso and Teller Counties define their hopes, priorities, and sense of place under our shared spacious skies.
This research reflects more than data — it’s a portrait of a region ready to imagine, connect, and build what comes next.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The section below describes the methodology used for the Our Spacious Skies community research and scientific survey phases conducted between June and September 2025.
Several distinct components contributed to the Our Spacious Skies survey research, and included nearly 4,000 community respondents. Most notably, a blend of survey methodologies was deployed, including online, phone, and in-person conversations — with dedicated outreach teams mobilized to reach into key communities and constituencies across the Pikes Peak Region.
The data presented here highlights findings from the scientific portion of the research, which involved a representative sample of 700 adults matched to regional demographics using U.S. Census data. The 700 adults completed online and phone interviews between June 13 and July 30, 2025. This sample is typically associated with a margin of error of ±4% at the 95% confidence level.
“I hope this will help people understand that our open spaces do not take care of themselves. They require dedicated stewardship. As users of the open spaces, we all need to do our part!”
